This interview was with Blake Fisher, the president of Idaho Traditional Bowhunters.
The Idaho Traditional Bowhunters have an ultimate goal of establishing Traditional Archery Only seasons. However, to garner support and increase our number we hold and host a number of shooting and hunting events every year. The ITB tries to also volunteer to other organizations to promote traditional archery through hands on shooting demonstrations and presentations.
I wish that I knew the answer to this question, we try all sorts of different methods, the best method so far is that when you participate in any of our ITB events you get a membership with your registration fee, and then after that your registration fee is reduced at future events. It seems that traditional archers are not a very good group of "joiners"
Honestly? At the rate that major manufactures of archery equipment are advancing technology I don't see any growth in Traditional Archery unless "we" get together and promote this sport on a national level. Since we are still at a cottage industry level, we would have to grow considerably to compete with the technology manufactures and their deep marketing pockets.
Tell/show a friend how much fun it is. Currently a grassroots campaign is all that we can start right now with our level of (or lack of) organization. There is a national traditional organization Compton Traditional Bowhunters, but I don't know what kind of campaign they are involved with to recruit more members or bring new blood into our ranks, I think that currently they are just preaching to the choir.
I could give them the same advise about Idaho being an over the counter tag state, but honestly I wouldn't recommend they come to Idaho, I'd rather they hunt Colorado, we have too many hunters already.
Every time I pick up my bow it excites me. Doesn't matter if I am hunting or just shooting. I like going to a Traditional Bowhunting event once a year to see all the other people that get the same charge out of it that I do, it really gets me excited to know that I am not alone. If I can't go somewhere I like to read about it in Traditional Bowhunter Magazine.

Mr. Fisher goes on to include some great thoughts...

I would encourage you to get involved/aligned with a national organization like Compton or the Professional Bowhunters Society. These groups have the membership already to start reaching out and changing archery.

I think that there is room for traditional archery seasons in every state in the nation, and as the technology grows, and our technology stays the same we could exploit this to our fish and game agencies and enhance our opportunities in the field with lengthier seasons and reduced hunter numbers.
